Spring has sprung! Today marks the first day of spring in 2020. It is the earliest spring equinox in over a century, and oh how we need it! Sunshine and warmer weather are much welcomed.

Today we are celebrating the first day of spring in 124 years! It marks the beginning, we hope, of rain showers and new flowers. While there can still be freezing temperatures until around mid-April, it is less likely. Bunnies will start hopping in yards, ducks will lay eggs around the neighborhood, and everything will soon be in bloom. Sorry allergy sufferers.
Spring is quickly becoming my new favorite season. I used to think it was fall, but I’m afraid my love of pumpkins has been replaced by my love of all the newness of spring.
Before Spring was called Spring, it was called Lent in Old English. Starting in the 14th century, that time of year was called “springing time”—a reference to plants “springing” from the ground. In the 15th century, this got shortened to “spring-time,” and then further shortened in the 16th century to just “spring.”
