St. Patrick’s day is widely celebrated all across the world. It is a vibrant holiday adorned with green clovers and rainbows with pots of gold. The day was set aside to pay homage to St. Patrick–who brought a Christian revival to Ireland.

You might be surprised to know that St. Patrick was not Irish. He was born in Britain near the end of the fourth century. When St. Patrick was 16, he was taken prisoner by a group of Irish raiders. It was in captivity that he found his faith and became a Christian. After escaping Ireland, St. Patrick became an ordained minister. He then returned to Ireland and started his missionary work of ministering to Christians and introducing Christ to those who weren’t. He died on or around March 17th, 460 A.D.
One of the most widely recognized Irish symbols is the green shamrock, otherwise known as a clover. St. Patrick used the three-leaf shamrock to explain the Holy Trinity–Father, Son, and Holy Spirit–to the Irish people.
